the Board and saw our intcregts were neglected for the want of an office clerk, I should be the first to propose it. What amuses me is this, when I was Chairman of the Board, I always saw the Overset r could not satisfactorily to tho ratepayers do the clerk's work us well as vi»it the Tiu-ious contractors as often as he should. Every contractor should be visited at the least once a week, if rot oftener I managed (with my fellow members) to obtain almost the whole of the Overseer's services with tho assistance of Mr W. Irvine, for I think, £175 a year. Mr Irvine used to fiivo a j;reat portion of his time to the work of the office which enabled Mr Sherratt to viiit the contractors almost daily. I always said that Mr Shenatt cannot work alone to the Road Board, doing th« clerk's work and the overseership satisfactory, und now it has proved itself by Mr Gtrgson, as an honorahlc nan, and one that bus really our interest at heart m proposing to give Mr Sberratt the help he dees. If the Overseer had £500 a jear, and our interetts were neglected from the want of an office clerk, it is the duty of our members to see he has aesististance. I am, &c., C. G. Teipp. Orari Gorge, June 20, 1877.
