"Herald" Office. An average general business has been done during the month. The wool season has commenced, and the clip of two or three stations is already m store. In grain, there is nothing doing, and quotations are much the same as last mouth. Flour, wholesale, is worth £13 per ton j sharps, £4 ; bran, £3; potatoes, £4. In building material, Messrs Jacksou and Gibson quote as follows : — Timber, N.Z., 16s per 100 feet; ditto, V.D.L., 25s per 100 feet; V.D.L. palings (5 ft), 25s ; do, (6 ft), 30s ; V.D.L. shingles, 30s per 1000; spokes, 13 9d each ; felloes, 6d each ; Gospel Oak galvanised iron, £50 per ton ; bricks, £3 5s per 1000. All kinds of building material are m good supply. Of coal there is a good supply at £3 per ton. ■ Firewood is at £2 5s per cord. The export trade has been moderate during the month, the following being. the principal items : wool, 642 bales ; preserved meat^ 1,904 cases; and quantities of tallow, hides, sheepskins, pig-skins, bacon, whpat, oats, barley, flour, sharps, bran, potatoes, &c, &c.
