THE GERALDINE ELECTION.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE TISrARU HERALD. Sir, As efforts . are being made m this locality to secure the return of Mr Haylmrst to the Provincial Council, for the Geraldine district, let me quietly ask those on the west side of the South Rond, m which direction Mr Hayhnrst's interest lies, and if he has been m the past, a friend to this neighborhood, or on the other hand has he not used every effort, and is still doing so, to cause ns much as possible to be expended on the east, side, where the whole of his property is situated, which has been and would be an expenditure m some measure taken away from us. They must not forget that Mr Hayhurst has done his best for the beach line of railway, which if constructed would leave them high and dry, as far as railway communication is concerned. Public meetings were obliged to be held to prevent the Opihi bridge being placed five miles down the stream. Let mo ask, do these circumstances command our support. If we are to judge of him m the future by these two instances, we could hardly have a stronger opponent. Those who live m the Opihi and Milford districts will doubtless support him, they have good reason for doing co, on the other hand, it will be remavkablo if ho is at. the head of the poll at Geraldine. If so, I bIhiII look upon it as a strange event m strange times. I am &c, A Voted. Geraldine, Nov. 16.
