GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
Wellington, Monday Evening. Mr Stafford has given notice of motion asking for information whether, as the Ministry was formed by Mr Yogel, and Mr Waterhouse is Premier, the Ministry would, according to constitutional usage, be dissolved if the Premier died or resigned. Sir D. Monro has given notice of motion that, as the Governor appeared to doubt whether the House would grant supplies m case of a dissolution, that the House assure him it will always be ready to perform its constitutional functions. The Municipal Corporation Waterworks, Tramways and Quartz Crushing Machinery Inspection Bills have all passed. The Life-Assurance Companies Bill lapsed, the House not agreeing to the Council's amendment. The County of Westland Act, Amendment to the Nelson Counties Bill, was discharged from the paper. Mr O'Conor protested against the discharge of the latter, but was beaten by 29 to 10. The Licensing Bill also was discharged. The Imprisonment for Debt Abolition Bill has been read a second time. The Legislative Council has struck out a clause m the Maori Representation Bill which gives an additional Maori member. Wellington, Tuesday Morning. In the House last night, the following motion and bills were passed, viz :— The House have promised to accede to Mr Sheehan's motion for a sum to be placed on the supplementary estimates to cover the expenses Mr J. E. Brown was put to by his Having to pay the costs of adjournment m a Supreme Court case — Lee v Brown and another — owing to his requiring to be m Wellington as a member of the House. The Commissioners Powers Act Amendment Act, Hooper and Norton Registration Act, Imprisonment for Debt Abolition Act, Dunedin Waterworks Loan Act, Auckland Mineral Leases Amendment Act, Resident Magistrates Act Amendment Act, Southland Waste Lands Amendment Act, ' and Deceased Wife's Sister's Marriage Act. The Wanganui Hospital, Wanganui Wharf and Bridge Bills all passed.
The Interest Act, DunedinGasand Waterworks Act, County of Westland, Local ! Revenue Allocation Act, Insolvency Act, and Juvenile Offenders Bills were all discharged. The Provincial Officers Disqualification Bill was ordered to be read the second time that day six months.' Orders for resuming the debate on Mr Reynold's insular separation, and on Mr Stewart's grand juries abolition resolutions were discharged. The Government undertook to give effect as far as possible to Mr Bathrate's motion m favor of having the rolling stock for railways made m the colony, and workshops are to be established at Auckland and Dunedin. Tuesday Evening. In reply to a question by Mr O'Conor, Mr Yogel said that the Government did not intend to appoint a Minister of Mines.
