Friday 7 p.m. Arrived — 8.5 a.m., the Alhambra, from I Bluff. Sailed— At 1.30 p.m., the Taranaki for Lyttelton. I . Hokitika, Friday, 7 p >». Chief Justice Stowell has arrived on his way to Melbourne. ! Nelson', Thursday, 7.11 p.m. Arrived, the Gothenburg, from Wellington. Wellington, Thursday, 7.55 p.m. John Hunter, a prisoner, suilering penal 'servitude made a daring attempt at escape to-day. He was fired at three tunes and was ultimately secured. Arrived — Ocean Wave, from Lyttelton. Friday, 7.48 p.m. The Wellington boat club is preparing to compete iti the intercolonial rowing match at Christchurch. Wanganui, Thursday, 7.50. p.m. At the Maori ploughing match, £30 was distributed m prizes. Tauranqa, Friday, G p.m. I Ropata telegrams report that Te Kooti lias been reinforced by 100 Ngatimarus. A government telegram contradicts the report which probably was much exaggerated.
