POST OFFICE NOTICES.
Mails for Christchurch and intermediate offices close at 6 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Late letters bearing a single rate in addition to the postage can be posted until 10 p. m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Mails for the Mackenzie Country will in future close at 8 p.m. every Saturday. Mails for Waimate, Waitaki, Otago, and Southland, clone at 7 a.m., every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Late letters bearing a single rate in addition to the postage can be posted till 7-45 a.m. Letters for Hokitika and Greymouth are now charged under the Inter-provincial rate, viz., 3d per half-ounce. On and after the Ist November the rates of postage chargeable on book packets and pattern parcels |<osted in New Zealand for places within the colony, the Australian colonies, India and China, and the United Kingdom are as follows : — s. D. Not exceeding one ounce 0 1 Exceeding one ounce and not exceeding two ounces 0 2 Exceeding two ounces and not exceeding four ounces 0 4 Exceeding four ounces and not exceeding £lb , 0 8 Exceeding 4 lb. and not exceeding lib 1 4 Foi every additional eight ounces or fractional part of eight ounces 0 8 In future, mails will be made up for the United Kingdom v.a Brindisi. Correspondence intended to be forwarded by that route must be specially so addressed. The rates of postage chargeable on letters for the Uuited Kingdom via Brindiai are as follows : — s. d. Not exceeding half an ounce ... 1 3 Exceeding half an ounce and not exceeding an ounce 2 C Exceeding one ounce and not exceeding two ounces 5 0 For every additional ounce or fractional part of an ounce ... 2 6 Newspapers are charged at the rate of fourpence for every four ounces.
