Perry— r « That, the . amount of tin bend \» £500, m two sureties of £250 each." ■ The amendment was ' put to the meeting and carried. The clerk was instructed to communicate with Mr Lough, and inform him that hia tender had been accepted to perform the duties of town clerk for £100 per annum, and that a draft Of the bond be handed over to Counciller Perry, the Council's solicitor, for examination, before being signed. ' His Worship the Mayor stated that he had, m accordance yrith" the Act, matfepubhe by advertisement m the T'vmara fferald the intention of the Council to levy a rate, *Uo by causing placards to be posted m cbospicious parts of the town. Proposed by Councillor Healey, m accord* ance with previous notice of motion — "That a rate of one shilling m the pound be levied on all rateable property within the Borough of Timarn, as specified on the rate roll of 1667, for the purpose of paying off the overdraft -at the Bank, and to meet the current expenses of the ensuing year." Seconded by Councillor Stnbbs, and carried. -Some discussion entitled as to the desirr* bility of erecting on office wherein to transact the business of the Council. _ Proposed by Councillor Cliff, and seconded by Councillor. Stnbbs— "That the Engineer be instructed to examine the section on which the well m George street is sunk, and to report -at the next meeting it there is sufficient room to admit of an office being built there, and if so, to give an estimate of the probable cost of erecting a small wooden building, with a fireplace, Ac. Councillor Perry stated that £99 had been voted to the Borough Council by the Board of Works, to be expended on the main road , within the Borough. A deputation; .from, the : volunteer fir* brigade (Messrs D'. McLean, and W. Mnnro) waited upon the Council to ascertain what assistance ' the brigade might expect from them. The Council considered they were Dot m a position to give an immediate answer to the deputation, but would give the matter their consideration, and promised to render such assistance as they could.,' Councillor Perry drew'the attention of the Council to the state of that portion of Sophia Street which leads up to St Mary's Church. The matter was referred to the Engineer. Councillors Stnbhs and Perry tendered their resignation as members of the Council The Council then separated!
