The Raiigatira for the time being takes the place of the Stormbird, which is at Wellington under repair. The barque Snsao Jane arrived m the roadstead ou Monday, August 24. We are indebted to Captain Mills for the following report :— Left Melbourne for Newcastle ou the 26th July, arriving at the latter port o» the 31st Sailed on the 6th iustaut, and experienced moat severe weather for twelve days after leaving. Is that time made only 275 miles. After that Tiad a most splendid passage. Was off the Solauders oa Saturday last, passed the Bluff same day at midnight, aud was off Otago heads at 5 a.m. Suuday ; from thence had a favourable run up the coast. At Newcastle freights ruled higher than at Captain Mills' last visit. To New Zealand (Wellington), 255; to Mauritius, 60s. The Seagull, Ssdver Cloud, Indus (for Lyttelton), and other vessels, were loading at Newcastle for New Zealand when the Susan Jane sailed. The day previous -to leaving the P. C. E. arrived, forty-two day* out from Dunedin, The P_. C. X had been given up aa lost When m Newcastle the Susan Jane had an entire overhauling, and was re-coppered. The ship Light Brigade arrived at Lyttelton on Wednesday last, bringing a number of immigrants, and a large miscellaneous cargo. The vessel left Gravesend on the 19th May. Up to August 9, had aa ordinary passage. On the 20th Jnne Dr Shoolbraid, m medical charge of the ship, was found dead m his bed. Throe children were bom during the passage, ami three deaths, besides that oi the doctor, occurred, of which two were single women, and one aa infant. Tha following is the summary of the immigrants : — Farm labourers, 8 ; gardeners, 1 ; labourers, 4 ; shepherds, 1 ; printers, 1 ; domestic, servants, 67 ; dairy* women, 2 ; cooks. 9 ; dressmakers, 1 ; irouers, 1 ; milliners, 1 ; nurses, 4; school-teachers, 1; matrons, 1.
