TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMARU HERALD.
Sih — Seeing m your paper of last Friday a letter signed "Subscriber," complaining of the management of the Timaru Jockey Club, ttc, 1 beg to inform the anonymous gentleman that if he chooses to take the trouble to apply to me, he can at any time be made acquainted with the exact state of the affairs of the Club. The statement that the Club is m funds is incorrect, as I am sorry to say it is now m debt ; but nevertheless we hope to give more money next year to the races here; especially if "Subscriber" will take the liabilities on his own shoulders. If he should consent to do so, he will then be welcome to the large amount of funds he alleges we have m hand. I shall lie happy to hand over the Secretaryship to ".Subscriber," if he has nothing better to do but writing- anonymous letters on subjects he must be wholly unacquainted with. Does the vom <h phmm of "Subscriber" apply to the Jockey Club or to your valuable journal. I hear it suggested it might only refer to the latter. I am, &c, J. Edward Duff, Secretary to T.J.C.
