" Herald" Office, Timani, Thursday evening. Busines has during the last week been somewhat brisker; aud several small crafts with general cargoes have arrived and supplied the markets with stocks much required. The farmers have, with some few exceptions, gathered m all their harvest ; and the increase on last year m the quantity of grain raised, promises to be a matter of some importance to the district, for it will to a great extent stop the importation of flour, Messrs Stubbs & King report for the week : — We held an auction sale of bullocks which tfealized £40 per pair. We have also sold privately a mob of 400 wether.s at 17s Cd. Also, several dairy cows privately at from .i'l7 to £'20 ; aud several unbroken steers, of very good quality, lit for yok<». at £19 per head. We now have 300 head mixed cattle iv hand for private sale ; and shall yard about 80 head of dairy and young stock, to be sold by auction next week. We hear that W. H. Harris, Esq., has disposed of his run to Messrs. McLean, with the sheep only. The price is said to be £50,000. It is rumoured that an auction sale of the magnificent racing stud owned by Mr. Hams will take place. Timaru retail prices. — Teas, 2s 6d to 3s 9d per tt> ; do chests, £10 to £15 ; do half-chests, £4 10s to £7 7s ; do qr. -chests £1 16s to £2 10s ; sugars, Co.'s No. 1, B£d per 16 ; do No. 2, Bddo ; crystal, 7d do ; moist, 6d and 64<1 do ; loaf and crushed, Is do ; jams, Is tid ; tart fruits, 2s 6d ; pickles, pints, Is 9d ; do qrts., 3s ; bacon, 2s per fb ; butter, 2s do ; cheese (Colonial), Is6d per 1b ; do (English), la lOd do ; rice (Patna), 6d per ft ; do (Carolina), 9d do ; candles (full wts.), Is 9d do ; tobacco (twist), 8s do ; flour (Chilian), 30s per cwt. ;do (Timuka), 26s do ; oats (new), 4s 6d per bushel, old do (scarce), 8s do do ; bran, 10s do ; sharps, 15s do ; potatoes, £4 per tun ; currants and plums (scarce), Is 4d per Ib.
