LONDON WOOL REPORT.

December 23, 18G5. Since our last report, prices were well maintained for all descriptions during the sales which terminated on December 6 ; all full-bodied wools, and those of good combing character, exciting most competition at each night's sale, their extreme scarcity causing them to excite great animation m biddings. The home trade bting short of stock bought very freely; operators for the Continent exercised great caution hi bidding during the first week, but taking their tone from the animation of the home trade became free operators and helped to strengthen prices to the close. During this series all old stock (and some looked very distressed, so much so that scarcely a bid would have been made for them on a quiet market), found ready purchasers at full prices, and we must quote our market quite bare— more bo than it has been for many years—of all wools except those arrived subsequent to the sales,many of which are being sold at full rates m order to meet demand and to close accounts for the year. The quantity catalogued for this series has been.—Sydney, 15,G62 bales; Port Philin, 6915 bales; Van Diemen'ss Land, 907 bales ; Adelaide, 1901 bales; Swan River, 15 bales ; New Zealand, 4460 bales; Cape, 30, 737 bales. Total, 60.257 bales. We shall report on the sales of the year m our January number, by which time we shall have full particulars of the years import for comparison. It is expected that the total increase on last year's import will reach 70,000 bales.—Home News.
