[ADVERTISEMENT.] TO THE JJLDITOB OF THE TrSIA.SU HER4JLD. rpHE Government, I believe, have taken the ■*- management of the Timaru Hospital into their own hands ; and, having appointed * creature of their own, are, it seems, determined to carry it on m their own way. I should like to know upon what terms patients are admitted into the Hospital, as 1 understand the present Government Official— "yeelpt" the Surgeon of the establishment — "contracts" to supply the Government with attendance and medicine at the lowest remunerative profit. The consequence of such a course is — the poor suffer, A case m point : a practical and worthily-esteemed Physican advises the admittance of a fever patient into the Hospital, but is refused by the "Surgeon" because there are already m the Hospital Jive patients. What kind of an Hospital Mr. Editor, must that b« which can only hold five patients? Such are the effects of competition m the present day, which allows a gentleman, worthily respected, and well known for his abilities and kindness, to be superseded by a " Sailor Jack " sort of a person, because he happens to be intimate with a Provincial Secretary at Wellington, and ha« been used to walk the quarter-deck; who, acting upon his former experience, thinks any opposition should be met by putting the " party m irons." Thus, Mr. Editor, the people suffer; and a " Jack m office " is allowed to ride rough* shod over the susceptibilities and feelings of sick people ; and admittance refused to th« Hospital because there are jfive m already. What earthly use, Mr. Editor, can an Hospital be if at a time of sudden and unexpected sickness, admittance is to be refused, and by a party sent here — not according to the wishes of the people and good sense— but merely to give a "place" to a party that wants one, a glaring instance of which we have seen attempted lately m the effort to supersede an old and respected Government Officer with a " bankrupt official." Mr. Editor, I trust and hope that you will lend us the aid of your powerful interest to arrest such a growing evil, which, if not checked m its first attempts, may swamp all before it. Trusting that the evil of which I complain may be done away with. I remain, Mr. Editor, Yours obediently, G. C. F. HPENDERS WANTED for the erection of a. -*■ Wool-shed and Men's Hut at Pareora.
