Primitive Methodist Anniversary.
. "'The public meetiiig and oritertainment in connection with the anniversary of the Primitive Methodist Sunday Sphool was held, on Tuesday. 'lhe chair was occupied by Rev. E. Drake. The. report was read by Mr. J. Dariby, and showed that the school has-been- in existence for thirty-one years.. At present there axe 16. teachers on tlie staff, 'and 186 scholars. Three scholars have joined the church during the year,. and seven are about to •. join. The Band of Hope has been most effectively worked by the Endeavor Society, the meetings being largely attended,•. and the splendid programmes much appreciated. Two visits to the country were made—one to Puriri and one to Kopu, ; and crowded audiences assembled. During the year 21 scholars entered the Auckland Sundayschool ; Union. examination, gaining. a first prize, seven first class, ten second class and four third-class certificates! Twenty-three;:also 'entered for the Connexions!'examination, gaining four prizes, sixteen 'first-class and sevon second-class. certificates. The young! people have also worked well in collecting for our New Zealand'missions, the sum collected, amounting to £10. For this prizes have also been given. The library has 1 been Iniprovbd by an exchange of 150 volumes , with thei Congregational Sunday-school, and by' Me..purchase of,about .fifty new vol- 1 umes. The total income and 1 expenditure for the year amoiints £44 16s. Feeling reference was made to the enforced retirement through ill-health of Mr. D. Davies,' the superintendent, and the hope waa expressed that he would soon be restored to health.
The following programme was then proceeded with:;. dialogue, "What Is Over the Hill," Misses Thomas and Ei Davies; solo, "The Goodwin Sands," Mr. A. W. B. Davis; trio, "The Son of Glass," the Misses Grundy; recitation, ,( Look Up,"-Master S. Thomas; solo, "The Gift of Rest," Miss Oates; solo, "In the Days of George," Mr. W. Edwards; recitation, Master P. ;Downeß (who received an encore). The |Rev. J. Mackenzie gave an exceedingly üble address on "The True Idea of The children and choir, under the leadership of Mr. J.< H. Lange, contributed several items in a imost efficient manner. Misses A. Downos and V. Williams acted as accompanists. There was a large attendance.
