I WELLINGTON, Nov. 29. Sir R. Stout has graated a rule nisi for a writ of habeas corpus in the matter of E. Bo'uvy, a New Caledonian libre, on the ground that he is illegally detained. The rule was made returnable at the: first sitting in Banco after ten days. At the Wesleyan Synod to-day the report showed an increase of two churchcs and 162 members Strong resolutions were carried urging all adherontsof the church to strike out the top line at the ■ local option pol', an( i vo t e f or men of high moral character, irrespective of party, at the general elections, It was decided to urge the Government to make the iotalisator illegal, and to ropommend the Conference to direct all ministers «to preach a sermon once a year on the evils of gambling.
