Turua Notes,
(From Our. Own Correspondent.) Turua, June 3. After years; of anxious looking and longing we can. at last see the smoke of the engine as it passes and repasses us drawingthetmckscontainingtheballast of the railway; line-..-It; now. travels some distance nearer Thames than is this place;.and we hope before long to be able to travel by train to Thames or Paeroa as we may desire. The legend " look out for the engine" exhibited at the various crossings for so many yea% and at which so many of us haye I laughed, i 8 at length to have a practical value.
We have had a week, of severe frosts night and morning, and the cry is" still they come." ',■'>'..■'
At the" Mutual" last evening there was a large attendance of members. The business was the reading of the Magazine ,by the editor, which was interspersed with a number of songs and a recitation! On Thursday next Mr Pond, analyst, of Auckland, is expected to give a lecture.
