At the annual meeting of the Shipwreck Relief Society the medals awarded by the.French Government , to the officers and crew of the ship Aristides for saving the crew of the Terre Neuve/iwore.presented by the Governor. In the course of his - speech, referring to Federation, ■ie. said if Australia was ever to become a power it would have to bo a maritimo'power. Ho regretted that Queensland had allowed provincial prejudices to overcome- national interests. There werp.iome'who could not approach Federation except from the point of viewtofi-'gain or loss to provinces or even parishes.
