The Mayoral Election.

(To the Editor.) Sib,-I notice that at last Mr P. Trembath has issued his manifesto, and told os the great and sweeping reforms he is going to make, or rather what ho would make, provided he was invested with unlimited power, and now let us sift them a little: Ist, If elected Mayor he would show greater work in the streets for less expenditure, in other words that he will have moro than h-s pound of flesh out of the unfortunate workmen. This is not a reform or anything, new, as upstarts have from time immemorial brow beaten the weak and lowly. 2nd, He would thiow oil on tb# troubled waters between the Borough and County, and henceforth the lion and the lamb woull lio down in peaco. Judging by the better feeling that has been in existence between the Borough and County since Mr Trembath left the Borough Counoil 1 think that his appearance on the scene again will have the opposite effect to bringing about a good feeling. 3rd, He would give everyone a vote for Mayor and Councilloiß whether they paid rates or not, that is to say, he would giro the expenditure of the rates we contribute over to those who do not contribute tbem, and permit them to run : the Council over ears into debt and leave as to pay t the piper—the nonpayers are the. majority of the community. 4tb, He would water the streets without a cart. Well Sir, I noticed by the report of the proceedings of tho last meoting of the that the Council bad no idea of purchasing a cart, in faot they passed a resolution to purchase a spray and get water from the County .so as to water the streets with the use of the hydran f . L think Mr Trembath has but a poor grasp of what wo wish from tho occupant of the Mayoral chair; ho sat for four years os a councillor and no one has yet been able to'discover any useful thing he ever did to forward any other interest but hiq own. lametc<— Burgess.
