Smith drew attention to the state of a drain in front of Mr Jenkin's residence, Tararu.—To be attended to.—Cr Wood drew attention to tho drain on the south side of Richmond street; between Pollen street and the beach.-Foreman to attend to it. Finance.—The report of the Pi nance Committee was read and adopted and tho accounts passed for payment Mr Rickit's account re contract for cleaning out tho Ivaraka Creek was passed subject to the Foreman's certificate. Wohks i\ T Tin; Bouougii. -The Foreman of Works roportcd on works that had occupied attention since last meeting. Turncock's Rui'out,—The Turncock reported "The supply of water in the Waikiekie is very low. On the 21st inst. I Iwd again to get a half sluice head of water froin the County. A '2-inch connection on the D-inch main had rusted away, and several other leaks also required attending to, '['lie drain around the parapet of the reservoir has greatly silted up, and before the rain sets in I will have it cleared," —Received and adopted. ■' Re Tararu Creek Crossing near Norfolk Battery: The Foreman of Works reported that, tile repairs could be effected at a very small cost, the Committoo therefore gave instructions for the matter to be attended to. Secretary of Fire 1?' Igade, re the appointmont of an engine-keeper: The Committee have to report that in dealing with this matter they kvc endeavoured to arrange the terms of the appointment in such a manner that in giving satisfaction to the Council they may also coinuide with the wishes of tho Brigade. With reference i.o the objection raised by the Brigade to having the engine-keeper placed under the control of the Foreman of Works, the Committee believe the simply wish to protest against the Borough Foreman having any control over the cngine.kcoper while engaged in attending to the actual work of the Bi igade. Tlioy would thercforo recommend the appointment of Thomas Redwood, the engine-keeper of the Shortland. Station, on the same terms as suggested by the Committee in its last report, Tlio Committee submit herewith the following draft of duties to be performed i— The person appointed will bo under the full control of the Council of the Borough of Thames. The duties to be performed are as followsTo attend to the gear at both stations and keep the samo thoroughly clean and in good working order; to attend to the lighting and cleaning of both stations', anil to extinguish the lights in the reading rpotns of the stations when the same arc not required j to perform any other matters or things in connection with (.lie Brigade which the Superintendent of the Brigade may from time to time sec lit to order; lie will be required to attend at the Borough yards every morning at 7.30 a.m., and when in the opinion of the Superintendent of the Brigade he ia not required to attend to any duties of the Brigade its M'ill be required to perform sucji works as the Fpreman of Works may direct; tho emoluments attached to the position will be wages at the rate of 7s pgr diem with occupancy of tho dwelling house attaelied to the Shortland station. A letter was received fyoiji the manager of the Gas Works stating that lie had not contraotcil to supply the Council with a further quantity of '2000 gallons of tar, and that the pripe he would requlro for 20 barrels which he iiad in hand, would be fid per gallon. Tho Cominitto gave instructions that the balance which was required to make up the 2000 gallons be taken at that price."
