MINING NEWS.

fICTOBiA.

I paid a visit of. inspection to this mino \to-d»y, land tbutid aery thing in cooncctlcn with the systematic development of the nine in a Very forward state. The western drive alone the .course of the 'new reef at the No 1 level baa been ' adwneed fully 90 -feet from the crosscut, and for 35 feet of thaY distance' parcels of specimen ore have been obtained, which vrere :iho" last crushing, and a fair show of the saino class, of ore is now to be seen along the back of the level. At the aforementioned distance the lode on its westerly trend has become somewhat divided:into small ribs of quartz, and, although, no : picked stone of importance has been met with in thero Veins, gold hap, nevertheless, been seon for the wbo'c length opened up. The principal cause of the joJe, splitting up is, in my opinion, due to the country rock being of a much harder character than that passed through when the lode produced the specimen arc; Another feature, which baa'no •• doubt bad'considerable eli'cct on tho lode, is its- approach to tho fault, designated at tho Iroro'riul bicak. This, iu my opinion, has been met with end passed through about 12 ff ct from (bo present fsco of the drive. -Here ft fault has been intersected, . but strange to fay it is underlying in the opposite direction to that of tho Imperial fault. However, I think it is one and tho same, and probably at the next level it will be found dipping on tbc other strike. AViih reference to the leaders iu the face , they are still encased in a tight description of rock, and separated by 5 or G feet of sandstone. Tbat on tho right or hangingwall side will, I believe, form a body of its own, as its (mergence here is rather much to allow of its association with the lend on the foo'wall, This Iced shows every feature and indication of proving to be the westerly trend ofthe main body, and although it is not more than three Inches in thickness, it however may assume much larger dimensions as tho level advances upon it. It bas tbe same underlie as that shown by the main body, and, in tho event of the country rock becoming softer, I have not tbe (lightest hesitation in saying 'that a specimen class of ore should come to batad. Tbe ex'en«ion of tbe level upon the couwe of the same reef is now wiibin 20ft of the main winze sunk from the adit level, aid is forward from tbe crosscut folly 80ft. Hero in tbo faco a junction of a crossreef has ju*t beei met with, whilst eolora of tho precious metal have also been seen. At the tioio of my visit the lode was being shot down, but its exact size could not be vcrv well seen until further developments took place. The country in this direction is of a tight character; still it is 'of a very favorable class for the existence of gold. When this level is advanced forward to the No. 1 fault, eastward of the winze, tbe block of payable ore should to of considerable extent, and will be ful'y ■800 ft to length by. 130 ft in height on tho underlie of the lode. This is of course exclusive of what may bo developed In the western section. It will be seen that Mr ])unlop has opened up a great ex'ont of groundin a very short period, and T may s.tythat when his time expires here n manner, bo can hand over a mine thoroughly, and systematically developed, Before 'WCMiPg»/ wW'i *"W ffle,,i ' m

;hat tbtre is no change to chronicle from the reef in the aria level. Storing bis been comroenceil, and the ore coming (e hand is similar in quality to that mined froni hero prefiously.
