This morning two' respectable looking young men named Harry Poulson alias Charles Wilson and Henry Wilson alias Willie Willie were sentenced to two months' with hard labor for '• ringing the change " on several tradespeople. They' are supposed to to belong to a gang of spielers, with which the town is now infested, SILVER. MINING. At the Crown Lands Board meeting yesterday the matter of silver raining leases on the Great Barrier Island was' brought up. Messrs G. Harper aud Wright deposited £32 10s, and made application for a mineral license of 100 acres of land on the Great Barrier Island, and it was resolved to grant a mineral lease for silver mining dated from March Ist, 1896, under the following conditions:-—Term2l years; number of men to be employed two; for the first six months, six men the succeeding, three years, and twelve men the remainder of the term; rent, 2s Gd per annum; royalty, one-fiftieth of the produce at pit or tunnel month, : rent to merge into royalty; £1000 to be expended within the first three [years. .
