LOANS TO FARMERS FROM SAVINGS BANKS.

- (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, October 19. The" annual report of the Savings Bank shows an increase for the year of depositors' balances of £246,000. The Commissioners report that a marked feature of the year's business has been the development of loans to farmers, and that the system is becoming highly popular. They say large numbers of leaseholders have obtained loans in order to convert leases to freehold. Such advances totalled £74,000.
