CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Charitable Aid Board was held last night. Present:. Messrs Coutts (Chairman), Radford, McFarlane, Foy, and Colebrooke, The minutes were read and confirmed. BJOrFER tg Adopt.—Mrs M. A. Herd, Ellerslie Villa, Great North Road, Auckland, wrote offering to adopt Hilda Dix, aged 3 years, at present being maintained in the Parnell Orphan Home at the Board's expence.-The Secretary explained that Mrs Dix would not give her consent to the arrangement, but he would try further negotiations in the matter. '

Ladies' Benevolent Socikty.—Tlw Hauraki Ladies' Benevolent Society presented their statement of accounts for the quarter ending June 20th, which showed the total expenditure in relief to be £15 &s 7d.—Referred to General Purposes Committee. Treasurer's Statement.-Tlio Treasurer's Statement was as follows:—Re* ceipts: Public Trustee re estate of N. Anderson, £218s Cd; Government subsidy, £134 Is 9d; Coromandel County Council, £68 lis; Ohinomuri County Council, £38175; total, £244 8s 3d. Expenditure : Dr balance at bank July Bth, £102 10s Sd; accounts paid as per vouchers attached, £67 7s 9d; balance at bank, £74 9s lOd; total, £244 8s 3d. —Received. j

Heath's Cabe.-A letter was read from the Kauri Timber Co; stating that they had made such arrangements es to preclude the possibility of Mr A. E.' Heath requiring further assistance daring his convalesconce.-Heceivod. Old Men's and Women's Home.—Tbe Secretary reported: -

"W. Mason and wife were admitted to the Home on Jaly 12th, their respective ages are 78 and 72. Robert Young was discharged on his own account on the 7th inst. The number of inmates at the Home is 28 males'and 3 females, making 31 in all. Mr Radford and I, to whom you entrusted the task ofj laying out the grounds, have decided that'the portion in front of the buildings should be devoted to an, orchard, and with this object in view we have had as many fruit trees planted as the circumstances would permit. Several ladies and gentlemen visited the Home on Arbor Day and planted a number of trees. In accordance with your request the Borough Council have diverted the flood water off the property, and have made such other improvements in the street that merit the name of a public benefit. The Board and the Tararu residents are, I consider, under a considerable obligation to the Council in this matter.

*-Referring to the last matter in tho report the Chairman said that the Council had made an excellent job of the work, and had thereby mrjch improved the Board's property.—Received. Relief,—The Relieving Officer sub* mitted the following report :—

« Rations to the value of £3715s lld have heen issued at Thames during the past four weeks against ,£33 12s 6d issued during the previous month, the increase being caused by the higher rate of contract price for the current year, which commenced on July Ist. On the present average issue of rations the increased price over last year will amount to about £60. At Coroinandcl the cost of rations for July was £6 7s 4d, against £ 19s 6d issued in June. At Ohinemuri th cost of rations for the quarter was £17 1 W."

"—Received. I GENERAL PUKPOSES COMMITTEE.—Tho General Purposes Ooramittee reported as follows :—

"Your General Purposes Committee beg to report that since the last meeting of the Board, the following amounts have been received:—Coromandel County Council, £68 lis Od; Ohinemuri County Council, £38 17s Od; Government subsidy, 3134 2s 9d. Mr Kenny, Deputy Returning OHicer for the Ohinemuri district, tendered his resignation as from July Ist. As Mr Kenny desired to be retired from the duties at once your Committee reluctantly accepted his resignation, and appointed Mr J. S. Ingrain temporarily to the position, and they now recommend that Mr Ingram's appointment be made permanent. The Ohinemuri County Council recommend the appointment of Mr Ingram. The accounts for supplies, services, and salaries for the month of July having been examined and found correct, your Committee recommend that they be passed for payment."
