(Press Association.)
Wellington, July 1. At a meeting of the New Zealand Eugby Union cablegrams were read from Queensland and New South Wales to the effect that the Queensland: and New South Wales matches could not be played on any other dates and that Queensland would therefore have'to leave for New Zealand on the 21st inst. A telegram was also received from the general malinger' of tne Union Company to the effect that it was improbable that % land on the 21st inst, and that the team in sucha casecould not leave for Auckland ti\l August the 28th. The Auckland Union, telegraphed that it had been decided to send its team south in the middle of August, but if the Queensland team came on the latter dates it would be necessary to alter this and make arrangements for-going South at the end of Julv. It was considered that if the team> could not leave Sydney as proposed, on the sth August, the New Zealand Union would not be justified' in making a guarantee'of all expeases from Sydney ,; and back, which it was proposed to do on other dates, and it was resolved to cable to Queensland that the Union found such difficulty in regard to satisfactory ar« rangements of the September tour, and it is feared that should Queensland not be able to come on an earlier date, it would have to advise postponement of the tour till next year. It was decided to leave the final decision in the matter till'the receipt of letters which the Queensland Union cabled were on their way.. ■•-■■-•
