At Hawarden on December' 29, exPremier Gladstone celebrated, the 85th anniversary of ; his birth, He received many congratulatory telegrams. Mr Gladstone's eyesight has been restored, and his health is good. Ho spends hours daily in clasical and theological study. He rea:deputatidu from the American Association of London and Paris on the 29th. The congratulations upon this occasion of the Tory newspapers seem .to be mingled with fear that Mr Gladstone may be prevailed upon to return to active political life.
