A SENSIBLE PARSON.
A young and well-known Bangor (English) Congregational, minister baving acted as referee in a local football match the other day,:.tbo ."_ society " at the'' Welsh Congregational Chapel of Ebenezer discussed the matter from a general point of view, andsome speakers strongly/coiidemned the practice of ministers of .religion encouragingofootball playing !by their presence. Mr Edwards, one of the deacons, however, while Wpressing himself as opposed ; to r footr ballas played under present conditions and as associated with betting, drinking, and swearing, asked those who condemned the presence of Ministers of the Gospel at the game what they proposed to substitute in place of' it for young men if they suppressed it. Would the college professors, some of whom were present, and others devote Saturday afternoons.to -entertaining the young inscience and other classes? If not, what was to be done ? He regarded the presence of a minister of the Gospel at a football match as a good thing, as it could not fail to hare a tendency to elevate the game, and check any swearing or foul play that might otherwise goon. No resolution was passed.
