SALVATION ARMY RESCUE HOME.

SPEECH OF THE HON J. CARROLL. At tlic opening of tho new Salvation Army Rescuo Home at Wellington tho other day the Hon J. Carroll apologised for the absence of the Premier and his other colleagues, the former having to attend tho opening of another institution, and his other colleagues had to attend to their Parliamentary duties. There were five Rescue Homes in the Colony, one at Dunedin, two at Christchurch, one of which was a maternity home, one at Auckland and this one at Wellington. There was a total accommodation for 90 girls. During the year ending July last 255 women aud "33 children were received into the homos, making 288 in all. Those who had passed out numbered 235 women and 22 child, or 257 in all. Of these 73 per cent, turned out satisfactory cases. The women were now leading good moral lives. (Applause.) On behalf of the Government, he would take that opportunity of saying that they were thoroughly in sympathy with tho good work done by the Army—(Applause)— and they had provision in the estimates for enabling them to carry on the good work to its entirety. The Army had spread its arms over every nook and corner of the globe, and had rescued the fallen in all parts of the universe. The Army cared not for creed or colour, but put out its helping hand for all. All over the world they were doing good, and rescuing more souls every day, and they were weakening the opposition of the devil. (Hallelujah.) [Colonel Bailey: You will make a good Salvationist if you go on like this.) Cheers and laughter.) They must have a strong Government on the benches, or they would never weaken the opposition of the devil. In conclusion,| he wished every actual and absolute success to the Salvation Army throughout all corners of tho world. (Applause.) Tho Army then sang "We Roll the Old Chariot Along."
