In tlie Speight-" Ago" libel action the jury returned a verdict on one count out of eleven, aud declared they wero unable to answer to other counts. They gave a verdict' for plaintiff on the eighth count, which refers to the " Age's" comments alleging gross extravagance, and assessed the damages at £100. The question of costs wvs reserved. The solicitor for the plaintiff, when interviewed, said that Mr Speight regarded the verdict as merely £100 on account, as it was intended to take fresh action on the other alleged libels. Tho defendant's costs In the caso amount to about £21,000, Speight's amounting to about £8000.
