ELECTION OF MRS YATES.
Auckland, Novomber 30. The Onehunga correspondent of the "Auckland Star" writes statin? that yesterday, whether for good or ill, was cortainly a red-letter day of the colony— tho first lady Mayor haying been elected under the British flag. Mrs Elizabeth Yates, tho wifo of Captain Yates—who was formerly Mayor of tho same borough —polled. 120 rotes, or 13 more than the other candidate for municipal honours.' Mrs Yates has been well-known as a keen debator in tho Parliamentary Union of Auckland, and in Onehunga is known as a lady who lias always taken great interest in the welfare of the borough.
Tho cemetery question, which for years has been a source of great moment for Onehunga residents, is now in (rood hands, for with Mrs Yatosas Mayor, and Sir Manrico O'Eorko as member of tho House, tho question will recoivo duo consideration. No doubt tho ladies will feel proud that one of thoir sisters is now thC| chief magistrate of au important town.
