THE MEASLES EPIDEMIC.

(BY TKLeORAPII.-PRKSH ASSOCIATION.) Wellinst-n, October 3. Mh T McKbjjzie this afternoon organised a deputation to the Minister for Education, in reference to tho allocation of fehe Education vote this year, in viow of tho reduction in the attondancoby the measles epidemic. The deputation con* sisted of the flon, Mr McGregor, Messrs T. MoKenzfe, Wilson, P.uchannn, Meredith, Hog«, E. M. Smith, and Taylor. Mr McGregor pointed out that the measles epidemic had vory seriously affected the attendance, and though it was proposed to pay on tho working, instead of on tho strict average, this would not be sufficient In Otago the difference botween strict and working averages would bo somo £250, bntthe expense, consequent on tho epidemic, would amount to about £1000, and no doubt other Boards were in the same position. Ho asked that the last quarter should bo paid at the same rato as the same quarter last year, or else as tho previous quartor of this year. Mr McKenzie having also urged this i view, tho Minister said that ench quarter, and the present quarter, will be paid nn that..of tho September quarter of the working average Ho proposed to con* tiuue paying on tho working average so far as the voto would allow, so that leaders and Boards would practically not be made to sufler by the epidemic.
