SHOT IN THE HEAD.

A SINGULAR CASE.

SECOND THOUGHT'S ARE BEST. 3— f

A uckland; October 3. At 5.30, o'clock this morning, a man named Robert Henry applied for admission at the Hospital. He was suffering from a bullet wound in the head,- and had in his possession a six chambered revolver, of which two barrels were still loaded, when he arrived at the Hospital. Dr Little examined the wound and found that it was not a dangerous one as the bullet had only lodged in the scalp. Apparently the man had shot himself, but not having succeeded at the first attempt changed his mind and went to the Hospital to get cured. Dr Little communicated by telephone with the watch-house iceper,. Constable Bullen, who transmitted the fact to : Cdusfable Hinton, of Eden Terrace. That officer subsequentlysaw Henry at the Hospital, .who stated that) he was very much depressedjjbut could not, or else would not, give any reason why he had attempted to take his life. He could not tell where he was when he fired the shot, beyond that it was somewhere in Auckland. Apparently the man had not been drinking. Henry is a single man 48 years of age. According to his own account he is a native of Victoria, and arrived here from Dunedin a few days ago by the s.s. Manapoori. He was going back to a brother who resides in Victoria.

, It is stated that the unfortunate man had been suffering from' 'insomnia. Strange to say the ball was found flattened against the skull, without .having penetrated the bone. Henry ;is riow.quitec'onscious.
