' EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. LOSS OP LIFiS. (By Cable—Press Association.) Melbourne, July 18. Tremendous ruins have fallen, causing considerable damage, The water rose rapidly at Toorak aud South Yam, In some instance families were rescuod in boats. Over a huudred aud fifty families are homeless at Richmond, and three hundred and sixty persons at Toorak. The Remington racecourse is under water. . An extensive washaway has occurred on the Adelaide line, McCulloch's foundry iu the city was undermined by floods of water and collapsed. The damage is estimated at £5,000. •Four and a*half inches fell since 1 o'clock on Saturday nioning._ A heavy soaiß running along the coast, and the schooner Narra was wrecked at Sorrento, and Capt Lancaster and a sailor were drowned. 'The schooner Unity was driven ashore near Schinck, but the crew reached lanu in- safety.
