THE Thames Advertiser. TUESDAY, JUNE 25, 1889.

11l another column will bo found a elegram from Col. There is no intention, or our part at any rate, to iraputo motive; for their silliness, we believe the mistake to have been made simply because thoi are utterly incapable of grasping tin facts placed before them with suflicien acumen to allow, except by accident, o their arriving at a right conclusion on an; (I ucstion. Now that; the Ministry is abou to appoint our rejected Warden to en quire into the matter it appears to us t< be the duty of the publ'c to wait till h< has liMidcd in his rcpni s imd-tho government ias had time to act, [ The Thame; ueopl'i have suilicient confidence in tin I \Vard ni to believe that lie w> 1 report t< govei imont in such. forms aa shall leavi nothiug to bo understood.. The appointment of unlit mcr and the absurdities they are guilty o: from time to time excite ridicule fo the law in our own people and con tempt for us as in the eyes of others

Correspondence and several interesting articles will be found on our fourth page. Ur Volckman will attend to Dr Payne s practice during the absence of that gentleman from tho Thames. It will be seen by an advertisement that a meeting of the congregation of St Geonro's Church is called for thin evening in the Oddfellows' Kali. Allarc requested toattend and the business is announced to be important. The following te!e;.:i:un from Col. Fraser M,H,R„ has been handed to us by Mr J. Denby to whom it .vus addressed "Minister appointing Mr Northcroft to conduct an enquiry re Justices. Inform Advektiskh to-night." Tho iMaval Artillery held their usual fortnightly inspection parade in the drill shod last evening, There were present about iS all told, under the command of Liouts. Potts and liadford. After tlie in< speution the men were put through the new drill and all acquitted themselves well. A now advertisement of Mr R. T. Douglas calls mtentiou to a fact interesting to those in want of hay, straw, groceries, etc., etc. Mossrs Ashcr and Torreas intimate by a startling advertisement in another column that they are compelled to quit the Academy oi Music at the end of this week. This prompt departure is necessitated by the action of their landlord, who has given them the extremely long notice of one week to lsavo tho premise?. We are sorry that matters have eventuated thus, as Messrs Ashcr and Torrens have been most assiduous ia their efforts to cater tor the public in a lirst class style. We, hope that tais week will satisfy the proprietors that their excellent management in the past has not been thrown away. Vv'e wish them bumper house?.

Dr Payne annou-.cas that litis about to proceed to England for a short visit. Ho has beon many yours at tbe Thames and lias practiced his profession during the whole time, and has of necns.sity become well known to a largo section of the population whom he has attended in their hours of sickness. Being an out-spoken man of very pronounced opinions he has necessarily made some enemies, but to thoso who know him in his professional capacity, he is looked upon as a friend and trusted adviser. The reason of his visit to England is a source of much regret, as it is due to tho slate of Mrs Payne's health. Wo sincerely trust that the trip may have the desired effect, and that in r. few months she will be again with her friends at the Thames in a satisfactory state of health.
