Sugar has again risen in prlco. The Colonial Sugar Refining Company has notified buyers that No 1 and No 2 will be increased £2 per ton, and No 3 £1 10s per ton. This makes the sixth advance since the seventh of April, and the total increase per ton is £1 10s. These repeated increases in the price of this highly-requisite commodity are mainly owing to the fact that the beetroot crop has failed in Europe. For some years past beetroot sugar has been produced iu France and other adjacent counlrios on the Continent. This naturally lessened tho demand for ' cane sugar, Now, however, when the (beet crop'has proved a frilpro, luiropan manufacturers have again returned to the cane sugar, for they must have the raw maieriat to keep the home market supplied. Such being the c.ise, they are also prepared to pay much higher prices for their sugar, and thus of necessity prices in tho colony must advance in proportion It !■* feared lint next year there will be a sugar famine in'Enropo, and already there have bun large buyo;\> of mauucactured sugar iu the Australian market. Such a state of affairs may result in a still fr'ther increase.
