RIOT IN CHINA
British Consuls House Burned (By Uable—PxJess Association) (Received February Bth 9.30 p m.) Hong Kong, January 7. News has been received from Shanghai that a riot occurred yesterday at Tching Kiang a town on the Yaug Tsa Kiang 0 inal Tin) rioters attacked the officees cf (Sir E. L. Oxenham, the British; Consul which were burned. The fire spread to adjoining buildings, and the houses of sevoral foreigners were also dostroyed, H.M.S. Merlin, Lieut Commander, Wm.M. Muturrin of the China squadron has been ordered to proceed at once to the scene for the purpose of protecting the | property of British residents.
