The Mahakipawa boldfield.

(Neleoo Colonist.)

News from the Mahakipawa diggings is of a Tery encouraging nature. This week Momanu and party got over 68ozs for five days in their terrace claim, the heavieet nugget weighing over 6ozs. The Keep-it* Dark party- got over 2Goza in-one pillible in their terrace claim. Another party got over 14ozb per man, and many others are doing well. Oae man found a nugget weighing nearly soze, besides some other coarse gold. At the same tiirie the ground is fully occupied, and it is foolish for any poreon to leave good employment in any capacity to rush there..

. .The creek claims are not fairly tested yet. Mr Clark has just come in from that locality, where, in eompany with Mr Reader, he has been further prospecting the reefs, He brought some very nice gold-bearing quartz, plentifully besprinkled with gold, and reports that the reef isseven feet thick, carrying fine gold. The samples are from the Waikakaho lease, ■ belonging to Messrs H. F, Logan, and others. ■

The eame journal referring to : the new rush says :;-one of the moet fortunate of the diggers who have'been to the Mahakipawa digginge,, returned, to town, on a short visit last' night'; •'■'Mγ /Homan has been at the, new .rush fpr some time, and has brought.with him Bomo gold of remarkably good quality,;, He is so,-wejl satisfied With'! the future prospects ot the claim on which,' he is engaged that he intends returning at the earliest possible, time.. He*states that though certain parties fare doing very well, there are some-hundreds on both fields who are working withriatany'present , returns or future prospects, and that there lire' numbers there who have never been on* a goldfield before, and are not acquainted with even the rudiments of the, pursuit by which they are now trying $make,ra'on'ey.' One specimen Mr Hoinan has with him is a nugget upwards of an ounce in weight and of excellent quality, much water worn, as is the greater part of the gold found on the field. Our own correspondent, as will be seen elsewhere, mentions a report that a reef seven feet thick has been struck. We hope that the qoartz may turn out to be a well-defined reef, but too much must not be taken for granted.
