■ Auckland, last night. Or Wednesday evening Mr J. H. Withe* ford was invited by a number of mine owners and others to explain the cauae of Sir James Hector's action in casting doubts on Coromandel specimens. Mr Witheford's explanation was very satisfactory, and a public meeting is called for Saturday Bight by the County Uhairman to ask the Government to demand that «3ir Ja«. Hector withdraw his insinuations against Mr Whitheford and the specimens from Coromandel district.
