MINING MATTERS.
,- ; Nbw ; Prince iMPERiiiL.—The No 1 reef, in the winze below, the intermediate level, still looks as; well'as every and- the barren quartz; which has -hitherto'cldng to its hangingwall has now disappeared, leaving a welLdefined leader about ,18 ..inches in thickness in the bottom. The; quartz is impregnated with favourable 'minerals, and colours of the precious metal are visible when breaking down. .As a still moro ceitain indication of the.quality of
the stuff coming to hand, the crushing at the company's batteiy is 'shaping satisfactorily. In order to open a block for working at No 5 'level, the:manager'started driving eastward upon the reef, from; the Deep Level Cross boundary" {yesterday. The distiinco to be driven before communicating with the winze at- present in-pro-gress is estimated to be'.about' 150 .feet; Theleader upon which tlie'drive.has been commenced is merely tliefootwall branch of tho lodo—which, it will be remembered, was found to divide into' two 'portions' towards the western endof the mine-rand a considerable distance iviH. require to be
diiven before meeting with-its junction with the hangingwall branch. The stopes above the intermediate leyel are furnishing a payable claes of crashing stuff, and the quartz shows gold when broken out. There are no noteworthy changes to report in the scopes on No 4 reef, above No 4 level. ; /- ; '.■■
