Wellington, Wednesday. I Among the bills to be brought in by the Government next session is one;dealing with the fisheries question. :

A private meeting of the shareholders in the Colonial Insurance Company was held last evening, but the press reporters were not admitted.' It'is, however, understood 1 that a'discussion took place relative to the management of the company's business board Of directors, and that inaccordance with a resolution which was: unanimously passed, steps will at once be taken to call an extraordinary general meeting, of shareholders for the purpose of discussing the question of management. About 20 shareholders were present.; > Two of the Volunteers who flred their rifles in the train on Monday havo been placed under arrest by order pf the adjutant, as th&y are not commissioned officers.

This afternoon the detectives made a raid on a tobacconist's shop in Willisstreet, and seized a number of articles which they allege were being used on the principal pf the totalisator,iand that the investments were on the Grand National Steeplechase and Hurdle Race, at Christ-' church,. Among the articles seized were two large .sheets of' cardboardjoti' which were the name of the race and the horses engaged. in it, while underthe .nameof the. racehorse was the number.of investors on that particular horse, the total number of investors on each race being at the top of the sheet. India-rubber stamps and anumber of tickets having horses names, and about £50 in cheques and notes were also taken possession of, The names of all the persons in the shop were taken, and it is understood the police will lay an information, under the Games and Lotteries Act, agaiust Mr Mandell, who oocripics the premises.

The annual meeting of the Government Insuaance Association Board was held' tonight, Sir Julias Vogel presiding. 'lVo' hundred policy holders were present, and the report was adopted. Mr G. A daring jewellery robbery was perpetrated some time last night or early this morning at Jenness' jeweller's shop, in Willis-street. The robbery was effected by an entrance at the back of the building by taking out the panel of the door. The burglars carried a locally manufactured lantern, which had beon arranged so as to be darkened. They took 26 gold watches, 40 silver watches, 20 solid gold alberts! 15 English alberts, 20 ladies' gold alberts 40 to 45 gold nooklets, 24 silver necklets' 12 ladies' silver alberts, 6 dozen silver rings, gold brooches, 4 pairs diamond earrings, 40 gold brooches and earrings (including 5' diamond sets, valued at from £3 to £35) and 12 gold and diamond scarf ping. The total loss is estimated at between £1500 and £2000,

A young man named Dixon rushod into tho sea this morning, apparently with a view to suicide. : On the incident being observed, three men reecued him without much trouble. Dixon is a married, man, lias been in poor health for some time, and appeared to be suffering from melancholia,
