OHINEMURI LAND COURT.
(fbom pub own oobbespondent.)
Before A. H. A. MUNRO, Esq., Judge, and KAMABIERAIE Whampata, Assessor.
Paeboa, June 24
Judgment was given yesterday, by Judge Munro, in the case of the land claimed by fiapata tePokiha, on behalf of the Uriwha tribe. The judgment included the claims also of a considerable number of the Ngatihako, who go under the name of Te Uriwha. Several lists were handed in to the Court of the names of those intending to go into the Crown j but when the pruning-knife of Mr G. S. Wilkinson, Government Land Purchase Agent, came to be applied, it was found that both parents and children were inserted in the lists, while, on the other hand, there was a singular forgetfulness of the names of those who had sold out to the Government. In these cases the Court allowed Mr Wilkinson to refresh the memory of the claimants with the names' of those who should have been included, and so added to their lists persons who would otherwise have escaped paying their debts to the Government. It is now almost certain that the Government claim will bo made good to about two-thirds of the whole block, extending from behind Paeroa to the sea beach on the East CoastsSeveral smaller blocks have been put through the Court, but in almost every case the land had been previously purchased by Europeans. Judgment is reservod in the case of Ngatikoroke, in consequence of the death of one of their tribe, and tho usual tangi.
