Auckland, Thursday. On the Waikato railway, after tho Ist of July, only one passenger train will run through daily between Auckland and Te iwamutu.
The Waste Lands Board have given Henry Lloyd permission to prospect for precious metals on Crown lands in tho Wade district.
The Maori class at' the Auckland Grammar School has been abandoned, the fees received (£2 10s a quarter), not being sufficient .to pay the master's salary of £50 a year.
Barry Symmons, a half-caste, and a great Land Court pleader, was married to-day at Cambridge, and gave a large dinner at tho -National Hotel. Mr Sheehan, M.H.8., presided.
Tho annual general meeting of the Union Beach Gold Mining Company was held to-day. Captain Daldy presided. The mining reports and balance-sheet were read. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of these, said that the directors began operations in their recent term of office with a balance of £16 in hand, and duriDg tho year they had made a call of one shilling per share, representing the sum of £375; that was, therefore, tho amount of their loss for the twelve months. At the presont time £135 in calls remained unpaid. Of course, under these unsatisfactory circumstances, the value of the mine had been reduced, the amount at which it was valued being now £7552, or one pound per share. In view of these things, it was cheering to learn that gold had been struck, although tho result yet remained to be proved. The motion was seconded and carried, It was resolved to issue three shares to Alexander Black, in lieu of three bolonging to his late wife, which j had been forfeited. Captain Daldy and j O. J. Stone were re-elected directors, and Mr Waymouth re-appointed auditor. Wellingon, Thursday. The Golden forest Company having been wound up another company is about to bo formed to work the mine at Takapua.
Haywood, proprietor of the Panorama of New Zealand, had a narrow escape from being drowned while crossing the Tukituki river, when his horse and buggy were being swept away,
Ihyebcabgill, Thursday.
A woman having been found dead in bed with several severe bruises on her body, excited suspicion of violence! An inquest was commenced, but adjourned for medical evidence.
A meeting of licensed victuallers resolved to ask Government if tho Commissioners are acting from instructions received, or on their own responsibility in reference to the notices sent to all the licensees of wooden hotels here, about refusing licenses unless their houses are built of brick, stone, or concrete.
