MR F.A.WHITAKER AT HAMILTON.
Me F. A. Whitaker met the Hamilton section of his constituents on Saturday, in the Court-house, and addressed them on political matters, His Worship the Mayor (Captain Dawson) boing in the chair. Mr Whitaker began his speech with a reference to the largo amount of business that had been accomplished during the recent session, and after this he went on to state his reasons for joining the Hall party. Mr Macandrew had systematically undermined the prosperity of Auckland, had attended only to tho interests ot his own beloved province. He, therefore, preferred to opposo this man and the party of which lie was a member, and accordingly threw iu his lot with Mr xiall, who was a man of honour. Tho Grey party was so disintegrated that it could not manage its own affairs, and this fact coupled with the absence of any responsible head soon led to its fall. After dwelling on the liberal character of the legislation introduced and Supported by tho present Government, and exhibiting tho extravagance of their predecessors, the speaker went on to treat of local matters. The Waikato-Thames lkilway wa3 now under way, while the construction of the Kotorua lioad, to which he was pledged, would be put in hand .at once, and be believed the end of the summer would see it approaching completion. It was his intention to have the Raglan and Waipa side well opened up, and a branch line of railway formed from Cambridge. The gentleman concluded by urging liis hearers to insist firmly upon financial reform, economy of expenditure, and careful administration.
