MINING MATTERS.

Eubasui Hill Ukitbd. — Shotover level: The main cross-cut on this level has broken into some old workings put in from the Moanataiari tunnel to cut a leader some time ago, and the manager is now calling for tenders for driving and stoping on this leader and another one, met with a little further back, whilst bringing in the cross-cut. Tho leader met with in the old workings had been driven upon for a short length in both directions, but it being rather small, and the round-about way the men had to go to get the quarle out to the battery for crushing, making it rather expensive to work, it has been let alone up to the present time without much work having been done upon it. This part of tho mine is now thoroughly opened up, and has easy connection with the battery, so that now the manager intends to commence operations on several of the leaders lately cut, and provo their value, seeing that it can bo done at a very small cost to tho company, and there is no telling what may bo met with by following them up, as they are in very likely ground. Tho drive northward on the Oddfellows' lode broke through into some old workings a few weeks ago, and since then men have been employed in cleaning them out and making everything secure by putting in new sets of timbers. These workings have now been put in proper order, and solid ground met with, and driving and stoping on (ho lodo is onco more tho order of the day. Tho lode is rather pinched up at present, but strong colours of gold are to bo seen in the quarlz at every breaking down. Stoping operations between the battery and Shotover levels are proceeding as usual, with but little change to note in the clmractcrof (ho lode. At the buttery 30 lied of stampers are at present employed \n crushing company's dirt, which is shaping f or a good payable return. The tribuUrs Jenkins and parly are also putting, through a parcel of general dirt, from which a Rood return is expected. DonPrdiio '! nißUTE.—Dahb and party crushed 7 tons of dirt at the luranui battery for i| lo yield of 7ozs 12dwls melted gold.

llßßALDßATrEiiY.~T?orihelastlwodayn 15 head of stamper have been employed on quartz coming from the Caledonian mine, as uo quarlz had come down from the .lburnia mine for several days, but a slart was again made on quartz coming from the latter company's mine in the evening, somo buying arrrived during the afternoon.
