SEIZURE BY PIRATES IN THE CHINA SEAS.

HoNa Kokg, April. The British barquo ' Elizabeth Childs was seized by pirates ten miles off Mendoza Island, when on her voyacro to Newchwang. They drovo tho officers and crew into one corner of tho vessel while they ransacked the cabin, taking the cronometer and other portable articles of value they laid their hands on. The pirates overtook the barque by moans of their oars, and when they enmo alongside they hurled stinkpots on to tho deck from their maintop, and immediately boarded. discharging their pistols at tho same time. Somo of the crow of tho barquo (all of whom were unarmed) had narrow escapes, but no ono was injured. The sight of a steamer coming up in the distance startled the pirates, who made for the shore along with a companion junk, which stood by while they were engaged plundering tho barque. Several times during the mclce the c;iptain and officers heard some of thy pirates speak English fluently, and it is thought some of them were Europeans,
