BORROWING COALS.
(To he Editor of the THAMES ADVERTISER,)
Sib.—lt has come to my knowledge that the steamers plying on the Thames river are in the habit of " borrowing " coals from my coal depot at Te Puke. None of these "borrowings" have been returned, nor have any of the" borrowers" informed me or my people of their having "borrowed" my coals. Neither have they paid for this " borrowed " coal.
I am desirous of helping the steamers trading on the Thames, and I have given instructions to Captain Tizard, in oharge of my snagging parties on the river, to render assistance to any steamer in distress without charge of any kind. This he has done in several instances, and though nobody so helped thinks it worth while to say " thank you," I shall continue to help all who need help on the river, so long as there is nobody else to look to but myself. As to the" ooal borrowers," I have no doubt they will see the propriety of supplying themselves with coal from Grahamstown in future.—l am, sir, your obedient servant, J. C. Fibth.
