The Dunedin Age quotes the following as a specimen of colonial sycophancy:—"Under the heading of ' Patriotic Cads,' the N,Z, Sim says:—Congratulatory addresses to Earl Beaconsfield arc now becoming the rage in New Zealand, The other day an obscure town rip North started a shilling subscription, and squandered the proceeds in glorifying itse'f and the Earl. Invcrcargill, seized with a noble enthusiasm, has essayed to follow su'.t. The inhabitants, however, appear to be colderblooded animals than their Northern brethren; five of them only put in an appearance at a public meeting called for the above object on Tuesday last."
