Tbo race between the yachts ' Sea Belle'and 'Eipple/for £10 a-side, was won by tbo latter by 45 seconds. The | Sea Belle' afterwards beat the ' Eipplo' in a friendly match over hor sailing course. 0. 0. McMillan was to-day fined £5 for failing to appear when summoned as a jurcr. An extraordinary meeting of share■ holders of the Empress Gold Mining Company was held at Mr White's office, Shortland-street, this afternoon, for the purpose of deciding whether the company should be wound up. After some discussion, it was resolved " That the funds on hand in the Empress Gold Mining Company (Limited) be divided pro rata amongst the shareholders, and that the secretary's salary and all expenses cease from this date until the shareholders consider it desirable to resume work."
The Waipa election takes place to-day, and a special train conveyed voters from Auckland. It is reported here that several attempts at impersonation have been detected at Ngaruawahia, and that there is likely to be criminal proceedings. Tho Waipa election returns are just in: -Hamilton, Whitaker 90, McMinn 15: Te Awamutu, Whitaker 21, McMinn 58: Mercer, Whitaker 19, McMinn 45; Newcastle, Whitaker 28, McMinn 18; Whatawhata, Whitaker 11, McMinn 34; Ohaupo. Whitaker 27, McMinn 25; Alexandra, Whitaker 21, McMinn 41; fatcrangi, Whitaker 2, McMinn 16; majority for McMinn 33. Jiaglan is the only return to come in, and it is expected to increase McMinn's majority, whose election is certain.
t Hamilton, Wednesday. The election returns here aro: — Whitaker, 90; McMinn, 15; McMinn's party expect a majority at Alexandra and Te Awamutu, while Newcastle and Eaglau are expected to be equal. Albxandha, Wednesday. The Waipa election passed off quietly here :-McMinn polled 41, and Whitaker 22 votes. AtPaterangi McMinn polled 16 and Whitaker 2. The result is uncertain, as important returns have not yet been received.
