, As we observe by advertisement, tlie Thames . Naval Brigade have orders to take their depar« tare to the. Thames to-day.' . We understand that only' the right half company of thia bri-' gade have visited us to enjoy a new new year in thin city, and we hope they have enjoyed themselves. About fifty men attended divine, ser-v' vice at St Sepulchre's Church last Sunday, in •compauy with Captain'Leßoy and the A lick* land Naval Brigade.. In the afternoon a detachment in thie company's gig, under command of Lieutenant Bennett, paid.a visit to H.M.S, 'tSappho,' where they were kindly received by ' the officers of the ship. Generally, we believe, the' men have met with a hearty welcome.' It seems there was sOine inaccuracy in a paragraph which lately appeared in our columns, in which it was stated that the Thames Navals had backed out of 'a race with tho Auckland boat.- We havo been"' informed by the officers of the Thames Brigade that they are quite willing to pull our Navals, for £50 a-side, and sail for, £25. The only condition they ask is that their boat carry any canvass, which-the Auckland men object to, consequently a race coilld not be' ; negotiated. Perhaps on (he 29th the Regatta, Committee may give a prize for rowing. W: must admit that the rowing race would be more in accordance with regulation, . ; Boats leave Auoklar.d under tho command of Lieutenants: Gavin and Bennett to-day, and we understand the officers of the' Sappho'> have very kindly invited our' visitors to pay a farewell visit, as tliey leave our harbour for the Thames,rr ■ Hmld, ■ ■ ,r :
