December 11, A; pobtion •of tlie maohinery. for the Waitekauri Gold .Mining Company, has been brought up, consisting of orab.winch, truck wheels, &c, The Katangahake machinery has not yet put in an appearance.—When Mr 'McLaren ; was here he authorised Mr Allom to put on three men to patch-up the present line of road, so as to make it' decently passable. The. main road will probably be : com. : menced shortly from Paeroa to Waitekauri, ,yia Maokaytown, .but I . do not. know whether the General Government will continue the road to Katikati or not.-Mr W, H. Moyd, tlio ohief electrician, arrived at Paeroa on Wednesday ■evening, and started for. Katikati the following morning. Ho has made an inspection of the telegraph line between •Tauranga and Hikutaia, and will report to the Government thereon. I understand that a considerable amount of' money will have to be expended on tho lineman's road to put it in good order, and as the line has been very!:expensive. to 'maiutaini I think that it will probably be abandoped and a new line erected, passing through this district as'was originally in* ■ tended. Tho Hon. Dr Pollen, when here, hinted, that such a course, .might be, preferable to putting iijj) a branch line to and. there now seems to be : 'every probability lof th© ? work being started quickly, as Mr Floyd is likely to report in favour of it.—There lias been almost constankrain for .the, last two days, and there is a very heavy fresh in the river. The weather seems to have cleared iip again, but lam afraid 'that' .consider* able damage has been done to the potato crops on low lying lands. .
