• Nevesvillk, Tuesday. The retiring, manager of the'Tairua Company paid off all hands on Saturday, both at battery and mine, previous to leaving for town. Mr Sully is in temporary charge, and awaits the instructions of the directors. Tho battery will resume work to reduoe the balance of the first 100 tons so soon as water can be had.

The Independent Company commenced operation? yesterday- morning, with the opening of a new deep level, exactly at the place where the manager had started months ago. when, by instructions, he was stopped by orders from town. This level will be fully 100 feet lower than any other, on the prospectors' lino of reef, and should provo the pormanency, or otherwise, of this lode.
