AUCKLAND FOOTBALL PLAYERS.

We take the following from our Auck. land contemporaries: — All patties testify to the indomitable pluck displayed by the Auoklond football players. They never seemed to tire, and the revorses of fortune they endured in no wise reduced their vigour. They fought manfully all through, but it was evident they wero over-weighted by some of the stalwart sons of Anak, of wuich windy Wellington possesses not a few. It might be mentioned that since tho victory of yesterday, Wellington lias become a little more windy. However, the people gave the Aucklanders a valedictory ovation of loud cheers, as the steamer which boro them Sooth, in search of a victorious conflict, left the wharf at the noon tide.

Tho Auckland toam is utterly disorganised, not having recovered the trip down. Wellington played too well. Tlie Auckland played not nearly so well as usual. There were 2,CJO spectators on the ground, who crowded so muoli in tho way of tho playing, as to cause Auckland to looso two touchdowns. We were met on the field by Sir George Grey and the Auckland M.H.li.'s. Auckland men lost weight from the effects of tho trip, not boing good sailors. Wo shall, howover, bo in better trim for other matches, in which, iu spite of this dofeat, wo hope to be the victors. Wellington team aro very rough, and heavier men by a great deal. Your correspondent has carried off the field a good many bruises; but consoles himself with the inowledgo that many of tho Wellington players wero equally usfortunate.
